"Pick Me, Pick Me!"
"Never mind, I don't wanna do it."

In a classic, chickenshit Republican move, GOP patsy Sen. Judd Gregg campaigned for the job as Obama's Commerce Secretary, got the job, then promptly gave it back.
I think it's been really fascinating to watch how Obama has reached out to the GOP only to have them publicly shit all over his kindly overtures.

There's brilliance in Obama extending the olive branch to the GOP so early in his campaign.
After widely publicized, repeated attempts to reach across the partisan divide, can anyone cite even one example where Republicans have returned gestures of civility or cooperation?

Nope.

Good thing.
It's wise to get them out of the way early in the President's first term. He tried. They refused to try.
We all saw what happened.

Unilateral relationships don't work. Trust me on that, Mr. President. You did your best, but--dare I use the cliche?
They just weren't that into you.

The big freeze out. Non-cooperation--the attempt to make him a one-term president.

The selection of Rahm Emmanuel actually makes some sense to me now.

He's a good counterbalance, should Obama's conciliatory nature continue to work against his agenda.

i don't think for a minute that gregg had a sudden attack of conscience. i think that he has skeletons in his closet, and the rethugs planned on dragging them out in a confirmation hearing. why else would he also announce that he was not going to run for his senate seat again? the rethugs want to make sure there is no bipartisanship at all, and they will threaten anyone who even smells of it. they are already targeting snowe and collins and specter. i honestly think that they are cutting off their noses to spite their hideous faces. this is gonna bite them in the ass.

My suspicion is that Gregg pulled a Jack Ruby. He was going to have to leave his office for some reason anyway, so he volunteered to be the fly in Obama's ointment on the way out the door. Either way, it was chickenshit indeed.

But that's okay, the instant O's plan brings even a teeny bit of success the flood gates will open in his favor and all the rethugs will be revealed as the ignorant thieves that they are.

I sure hope the bipartisan zombie gets a bullet in the brain. Nothing but a pox upon the world.

Randal, me too.
As much as I'd like to be kumbaya and all together now, turns out I neither like nor trust the GOP.
I could be bipartisan if my choices were liberal, progressive and moderate political parties.
In fact, I'd be a line-crossing motherfucka if that was the case.

I like to think this was brilliant strategy on Obama's part. Think about it, he basically just humiliated the GOP. Gregg campaigned for the position, and Obama said OK. I think I know why: Obama knows the GOP wants their hands on the Census Bureau, who the Comm. SEc. oversees.
So, after giving Gregg the nod, Obama changed the policy so that the chief of the Census Bureau (yet to be named) now also answers to the WH directly.

No more hands-on tinkering with the Census Bureau for the GOP. Can you imagine how livid Gregg must have been? Not only did his plan get foiled, Obama was one step ahead.

I find it interesting that the MSM aren't really reporting on this angle, but then again, they wouldn't, as it would demonstrate once again that Obama is not naive.

Oh and with regards to bipartisanship, I love that Rahm announced that Obama's bipartisan attempts slowed things down... because now Obama has a reason not to extend his hand ever again.

LOL!

Helen, love your theory and summary of the whole mess because I was starting to think O wasn't acting wisely, but now I see he was indeed one step ahead. Brilliant.

Why, thank you, big sis! I only hope I'm right. :)
