***SPECIAL UPDATE***
Due to a certain Korn fan's attempt at stuffing the ballot box, I am sad to report that my weaselly real life friend Jim Bob* has disqualified his entry from the race.
So far, "Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel is winning, and I hereby change my vote from Brenda Russell to Peter Gabriel.

Karen Zipdrive presents:The First Annual Best Love Song Contest

Everyone has at least a few favorite love songs that the moment they hear they are transported to a happier place.
I have many, but my entry is "Piano In The Dark," by Brenda Russell.
Her anguish, hope and passion provide the listener with the chance to feel those same emotions, vicariously through her.
Tell me your favorite love song in the comments, and if you like, please provide a link to the song's YouTube video, if there is one available.
The winning song (whichever gets the most votes) gets played here, along with a quasi scholarly essay on the song and its artist.
So, watch this video, get inspired and comment.
:D

Probably too obscure to win anything, but Johnsburg, Illinois by Tom Waits is still one of my favorites.

For more uptempo, Reet Petite by Jackie Wilson, a song so good Van Morrison wrote a song about it.

(Fred Astaire, man, you don't get better than this.)

Rgds,

TG
PS - one of my friends sang this at their wedding reception to his bride. He practiced for months (she didn't know).

Irving Berlin's "What'll I do" is pretty great too if you prefer the oldies.

I suck at coming up with favorites. I don't even know how I would begin to narrow it down. Melt with You holds a special place in my heart though.

We all seem to be only voting for our own choice. I like plenty of the others but I want to add: Peter Gabriel in your eyes

It might make you think of this movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-j379JbL-xM

If we're voting on a "love" song I guess I'd have to vote for Peter Gabriel's "In your eyes" because the words touch my soul.
But I prefer a good "lust" song like something by Barry White that melts me when I hear it.

Is it too late to vote?? Awww...

For v-day, I sung a slowed-down acoustic version of Buckcherry's Crazy Bitch to my girl.

She LOVED it, and wants me to record it. If you've seen The Hangover, think the wedding singer's version of 'The Candy Shop' but sweeter and more heartfelt.

Peter Gabriel works, I guess. *harumph*
