So Very Sweet

My big brother Billy is a Texas Good Ole Boy who loves to fish, drives a pick-up truck, owns a couple of guns and rifles and wears a baseball cap all the time.
But unlike typical Texas Good Old Boys, he's a die-hard Democrat and avid environmentalist.
Well, I've only ever seen or heard of Billy crying three times.
Once when my Mother died. Once when the final episode of "Roots" aired. Then he called me this morning to tell me he cried last night when he heard President-Elect Obama's speech.
I think, like Billy, we all share a sense that Obama is everyones' strong new daddy who's here to make sure we're taken care of and protected. We feel relieved.
Unlike most politicians, I trust this man. I respect his judgment. And I think his calm demeanor and intellectual depth will lead us out of the quagmire Bush and his allies created.
Hey Billy!
I cried, too.

Four years ago I sat at this desk in front of my computer with my three year old daughter on my lap.

I could not stop crying.

Today, I'm here again, and I'm crying. But it is SO much different this time around.

So did we, and our family out of state as well. And then we heard the great news that people here had the good sense to get rid of Marilyn Musgrave (double-digit loss to her, much better than the polling was showing). It was an incredible night all around.

Oh yeah, the puppy line made me cry, too.I immediately thought about what kinda puppy they'd get- a pound mutt or an AKC breed- and what breed, a little Pug? A Black lab? Certainly not a pit bull, I hope.
I think a Boston Terrier would be best--half black, half white and a canine tribute (and dead ringer for) Jesse Jackson.

I shed tears for the wonderful change we will be part of. Obama made such an impression on me 4 yrs ago - I knew he would hold a higher office at some point in time - just not this quick. I honestly believe he was "testing the waters" and actually went farther than even he believed possible. I'm ready for change...and I'm ready to help.

I cried too! So did the GOP, but not the same kinda tears.

Great story. I had read that Obama plans to rescue a puppy from a shelter.

Now, THAT'S class!

I feel like our National Nightmare (aka the shrub) is nearly over. It's gonna take a lot of work though.

I think Obama is up to the task, for all the same reasons you mentioned. The guy ran the most incredible campaign ever. I have no doubts he'll do the same for the country.

i was so emotional all day. i cried several times, including during the acceptance speech. when i really lost it was when joe biden's mother came out on stage. i don't know why that hit me so, but i guess it made me think of jill's mother and obama's grandma not living to see that day.
as for the puppy, i hope you will all visit the raisin tonight. i don't usually get very mushy, but yeah, i was thinking about the puppy, too!

Yeah, do visit Raisin- the puppy alone is worth the trip.

Dear Ms. Zip.... I was starting to like your brother except for the Crying at the End of Roots part. Real men only cry at the end of Casablanca. &your comments at Dcap's were delicious. I really gotta stop here ... oftener.

okjimm,
you are so wrong! real men cry at the end of brian's song!
however, you were correct about it being a good idea to stop here more often!

World celebration! Did you know that every county in Vermont went for Obama! This, the whitest state in the union!

We even set off streamer-poppers at the library staff meeting today. (I tried to stick it up my nose, but was restrained by one of my younger colleagues.)

Could you give Billy a hug and kiss for me? I heart him now.
