So Long, MoFo Joe

Three-term Senator Joe Lieberman was defeated yesterday in his bid for a fourth run as a Senator representing Connecticut.
Political newcomer Ned Lamont, an anti-war candidate, won by a slim majority (52 percent).
Lieberman plans to run as an Independent.
I don't know why he doesn't just jump ship and run as a Republican. After all, he's consistently been an apologist for Bush's unwinnable war, plus he's cozied up to him in way too many photo ops.
This primary election bodes well for the November elections.
There's blood in the water and people finally are getting to voice their contempt for the status quo, and those who've helped enable this abysmal regime to run rampant over the Constitution and the wishes of the taxpayers.
In another race, Congress Rep. Cynthia Crazy Eyes McKinney lost her primary in Georgia.
She may be remembered as the wild eyed cop slapper who went ballistic when a Capitol police officer failed to recognize her as a member of Congress and tried to deny her access to a House office building.
Oh, well. That suits me fine.
We don't need any zany, loose cannons like McKinney in the Democratic party right now. She only reinforces the wilder side of the inclusionary party, and right now we need some credible reps who can convince mainstream voters they have the competence and composure to dig us out of the hole the GOP has buried us in.
Giving the boot to Joe Lieberman was the first bomb to indirectly hit the GOP, and is a harbinger of good news for the coming general elections.
They've been put on notice: the GOP and their sniveling Democratic sympathizers have to go.

I love this e-mail I got from Michael Moore:

Friends,

Let the resounding defeat of Senator Joe Lieberman send a cold shiver down the spine of every Democrat who supported the invasion of Iraq and who continues to support, in any way, this senseless, immoral, unwinnable war. Make no mistake about it: We, the majority of Americans, want this war ended -- and we will actively work to defeat each and every one of you who does not support an immediate end to this war.

Nearly every Democrat set to run for president in 2008 is responsible for this war. They voted for it or they supported it. That single, stupid decision has cost us 2,592 American lives and tens of thousands of Iraqi lives. Lieberman and Company made a colossal mistake -- and we are going to make sure they pay for that mistake. Payback time started last night.

I realize that there are those like Kerry and Edwards who have now changed their position and are strongly anti-war. Perhaps that switch will be enough for some to support them. For others, like me -- while I'm glad they've seen the light -- their massive error in judgment is, sadly, proof that they are not fit for the job. They sided with Bush, and for that, they may never enter the promised land.

To Hillary, our first best hope for a woman to become president, I cannot for the life of me figure out why you continue to support Bush and his war. I'm sure someone has advised you that a woman can't be elected unless she proves she can kick ass just as crazy as any man. I'm here to tell you that you will never make it through the Democratic primaries unless you start now by strongly opposing the war. It is your only hope. You and Joe have been Bush's biggest Democratic supporters of the war. Last night's voter revolt took place just a few miles from your home in Chappaqua. Did you hear the noise? Can you read the writing on the wall?

To every Democratic Senator and Congressman who continues to back Bush's War, allow me to inform you that your days in elective office are now numbered. Myself and tens of millions of citizens are going to work hard to actively remove you from any position of power.

If you don't believe us, give Joe a call.

Yours,
Michael Moore

I know that the national media has characterized this race as one that is powered by "anti-war activists" but as a Conn. resident, I can say that our dissatisfaction with Joe goes much deeper, including his positions on Terri Schiavo and Supreme Court nominees; running for vice president and senate and risking a Republican appointment to his senate seat; support of school vouchers; etc.

The people who support and voted for Lieberman are sending the message that they are satisfied with the direction the country is going. Those who support Lamont are vocalizing the need for change.

Robyn, thanks so much for the bird's eye view of why Lieberman had to go.
Your insight gives all of us valuable talking points about Lieberman that went way beyond his pro-war stance.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if Lieberman split the Repubelican vote instead of splitting the Democratic vote?

Joe Lieberman the Independent, you mean?
...chuckling

That "D" right beside Joe's name is actually a big Republican "R" that accidentally got cut off by the paper trimmer.

My god, I am sorry but how could anyone reading the succinct post of Robyn above support this slime of a career pol who cares more about his "seat" and his wife's access to everyone as a lobbyist through his "seat" than he EVER did about Joe Q. Public?

Because he's Jewish.
Holly, God love her, always thinks Jewish first and everything else later.
I wish she'd put her Jewish energy behind Kinky Friedman instead of Lieberman the Nebbish.
