Arghhhhh!

TGI Friday's has an ad out where this guy drinks his buddy's Kung Pao sauce because it's in a shot glass and he thinks it's a drink.
Then the other guy says, "That was my kung pao sauce for my SRIMP."
Why do people say 'srimp' instead of shrimp?
Are they intentionally trying to drive me crazy? Are they really that stupid?
If you say srimp instead of sHrimp, we may have trouble continuing to be friends. Please don't admit it if you do.
Thank you.

Maybe they think that it sounds more refined. British, even.

Americans just LOVE British accents.

No, no, no.
Srimp is the culinary equivalent of NEWcular.
It's just wrong.

It's a dialect thing, Karen. "Shr" is a tricky vocal combination for a number of people. I notice particularly that African-Americans (maybe it's just NY-area black folk) use "sr" instead of "shr." I consider this dialect shift to be a far different matter than "nu-kyu-lar," though...

I don't recall any of my black friends saying srimp.
It ain't no dialog shift, it's just goofy is what it is.

Prawns are just giant shrimp- to call regular shrimp prawns is just pretentious.
