Those Cuddly New Orleans Hornets

I just removed my last post about being subjected to what looks like an auto insurance scam after my fender bender in New Orleans. I don't want to linger on my anger, much less commit it to bloggy perpetuity.

Instead, I want to talk about the NBA semifinals match between my beloved San Antonio Spurs and the New Orleans Hornets.
Not only are the Spurs being subjected to the blatantly uneven calls by that sniveling rat bastard referee Joey Crawford*, they gotta put up with shit like you see in the photo.
Somehow, putting Tony Parker's wife Eva Longoria in a Hornets floozy outfit and allowing some goofball Hornets fan to wag her around while TP is trying to make a free throw is considered okie dokie.
Yes, it is pretty hilarious, but if it were your wife or girlfriend or whatever, would it be cool to see her like that?
Would it be okay if a Spurs fan dressed Tyson Chandler's mama in a hoochie Spurs outfit and wagged her around when the big man was trying to free throw?
No, man, that's cold.
I really wanted to like the Hornets because they represent a broken-down city that needs the revenues a good NBA team can bring to town.
But watching them play makes me feel just the opposite. I don't like dirty players like Karl Malone and Bill Laimbeer, and the Hornets have more than a few of them on their roster.
Being a fan of the Spurs dynasty has spoiled me.
I like their good fundamentals and that they feel no need to hip check and foot stomp and elbow and trip and knee opponents in the nuts. Well, there is Bruce Bowen but he's only used in emergencies.
But as the Hornets continue to receive preferential treatment from refs like Crawford and get to play as dirty as they want, I hope they lose their asses off if they move on in the series.

Just because they play for a city rife with cheaters and con artists doesn't mean they have to act the same way.

*On April 15, 2007, Crawford ejected San Antonio Spurs superstar Tim Duncan for supposedly laughing at Crawford from his seat on the bench during a game against the Dallas Mavericks.
On April 17, Crawford was suspended for the remainder of the 2006-07 NBA season and the 2007 NBA Playoffs as a result of this altercation, ending his 21 consecutive Finals appearances. The league also fined Duncan $25,000 for verbal abuse of an official and warned that a repeat incident in the future would result in an ejection. Commissioner David Stern said Crawford's actions "failed to meet the standards of professionalism and game management we expect of NBA referees." Crawford met with league officials on July 30, 2007 to discuss his future in the NBA, but no resolution was reached between the two parties.

Crawford is a cretin..no doubt about it.

Go JAZZ!!!! Take down those hated Lakers please! Jerry Sloan needs to get to the top before he retires.

Oh, don't get me started on the Jazz and their creepy coach Jerry Sloan.
I'm still pissed about Karl Malone elbowing David Robinson in the head back in the 90's, sending D-Rob to the hospital while Malone got a free throw out of it.
I agree with your hatred for the Lakers and their ball hoggin' franchise rapist, but loving the Jazz? Huh uh.
Like Stockton and Malone, Sloan needs to retire without a title.
A guy who was that dirty as a player deserves the NBA's first annual, "Close but no cigar" award.
AND he needs to breathe with his mouth shut.

Boozer isn't white last time I checked. Yes, he has been around the block a few times..

I will always root for the underdawg, and you don't get more under than the Jazz...ok, not really, the NO team is lower on the NBA rung I do believe.

Stockton was a great lil white boy..I miss him.

Spurs got some business to take care of. They haven't made it easy on themselves, but these guys are the champs, and they know what it takes. I just don't think NO can beat them this year.

1. Carlos Boozer is hardly what I'd call a household name. In fact, I had to Google to find out the bum's first name.
For being the Jazz's franchise player, they're paying him peanuts.
I believe the Jazz has always paid the lowest salaries in the NBA, and that's partly why they'll never move past the semi-finals in the playoffs.
2. The Spurs have been winning the NBA Championship every other year for quite a spell now. This is an off year, and I think the Hornets will probably steal it from them in Game 7, especially with Crawford being allowed to referee.

First off, spending large amounts of money doesn't guarantee anything.. See Steinbrenner and the FL Marlins as examples from both ends of that spectrum.

I have been drafting Boozer in fantasy bball leagues for years now..apparently I am better informed than you KZ. :)

I'm not a football or baseball fan so I'll take your word for it.
As for you being better informed about the Jazz than I, I'll give that to you as well, since I don't really keep track of the scrub teams.
I do hope they beat the Lakers, but I'm sorry to tell you they won't get any further than that.
You know, history and all...

Well, I do have the Audacity of Hope that the Jazz will go all the way this year. ;p

Boozer has only been with the Jazz since 04. But he has gotten better each year.

Hey...roundball isn't my cup of tea like baseball. But I pay attention during the playoffs..suckers are so long, its another whole season!

As for history..fuck it! :)

Game Six was last night in San Antonio. The Spurs beat the dirty players by 19 points (80-99)!
Oh, and our Robert Horry (aka Big Shot Bobby)was setting a pick and inadvertantly brushed up against their foul collector David West, who crumpled to the floor in agony like a Louisiana passenger in a minor fender bender.
Wah.

Congrats on the Spurs win, I did watch most of the game. Robert Horry has turned out to be a good player. Perhaps leaving the Lakers did that for him?

I saw the West incident..lol..lousy actor that guy.

Whoa whoa whoa! Robert Horry was a great clutch player even when he was a Laker!
Glad you watched the game and saw the Emmy winning performance by David McFloppy. What an a-hole.

Game 7 on Monday is gonna be a classic NBA bloodbath...hostile arena, dirty players with cocky attitudes, bad sportsmanship, crooked refs, and the defending champion Spurs. :D

What I meant was he wasn't in the limelight when he was with the Lakers. Kobe sucks up all that juju ya know.

I have always appreciated Horry's skills. :)

That will be a great game..can't wait!

Yep. Bloodbath on Monday. I'm not sure by how much, but I think the Spurs pull it together and knock out the Hornets. We are too clutch to drop a game 7 to these greenhorns.

Karen Zipdrive said...

WAY clutch.
The Hornets are not a bad team and Coach Byron Scott is a stand-up guy, they just need some big division and conference wins before they start acting like such big shots.
I think Tim Duncan finally lost his temper in Game 5 over that dick Joe Crawford's bogus calls and that anger showed in Game 6.
Let's hope he's slow to cool off.
