Big Fucking Deal

The GOP and Bush are trumpeting victory because Abu Musag al-Zarqawi was killed when his safehouse was destroyed by a couple of 500-pound bombs dropped by U.S. warplanes.
Did you notice I spelled his middle name "Musag" instead of "Musab"?
Nah, I didn't think you would. I had to look up the spelling of his entire name. He's no Osama bin Laden, after all.

Bush will become energized and start publicly bragging about bagging the number two man in Iraq. His cockiness will only fan the flames, and we all know that by now.
Seems to me there have been several number two men in Iraq who've been killed.
Al Qaida is like a roach colony, though.
If you kill a large cockroach in your kitchen, do you feel like the rest of them will see his remains and run for their lives to the house next door?
Clyde, who needs no introduction, sent me a smug e-mail this morning, saying, "it was a mighty fine day." He didn't mention why, presumably because he thought the news was so big it needed no specific mention.
I wonder if the tens of thousands of American people who've lost their loved ones in Iraq are rejoicing because a major cockroach has been killed? Are they singing, "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead?"
I doubt it.
You can take people named Abu, Mohammed, Osama, bin- this or al- this and kill all of them and it won't matter.
Iraq is a festering, infected wound that smears its pus and blood and germs all over everyone who gets close to it.
The only way to avoid exposure is to get the fuck away from it.

P.S. Where's bin Laden?

If this "Don't Know Shit From Shinola" "War" pResident had a lick of sense, he'd send a few of my code-talking cousins over to Afghanistan, but instead of interpreting Osama bin Forgotten's smoke signals (which are no doubt orders he's placing to Domino's and Pizza Hut since he knows his cellphone is being traced and recorded), my cousins would be tracking Osama by the tireprints in the sands of Afghanistan and Pakistan left by Osama's portable kidney dialysis machine, cave to cave. They wouldn't even charge this "Shit for Brains" pResident very much to do it either. And,... AND,... it wouldn't take four-and-a-half years, either! All Dubya's gotta do is AKS. He's too proud. He won't. His Momma would think less of him if he asked for help. There's DAMN FOOLS, then there's Dubya. He's unique! No other words are necessary.

KZ..Your thoughts were the same as mine when I heard it this morning..BFD...this won't do shit for stopping the insurgency. Great analogy on the roaches too.

I like to think of the Shrub as a fireant however..

It's a "mighty fine day"? Who fucking cares about this guy? Are anyone's dead friends and family coming home? Are anyone's live, serving friends and family coming home? Is this unfounded war anywhere close to coming to an end? That would be a resounding no, no, and no. I don't get it.

I agree with you to a point Karen, but then I also think taking out al-Zarqawi is a very good thing. It does mean something. He was in a strong position of power, a bit bumbling idiot - but still a significant leader.

If this gives even the slightest morale lift to our troops then great. They need it. They need to hear that something actually went right for a change.

Just curious (and not trying to start anything or flame - seriously, we're on the same team!) but what would be the reaction if we knew where Zarqawi was and DIDN'T take him out?

Shades of Tora Bora...

We did the right thing AND you're right, it won't stop all the al Qaeda roaches but it might send them scurrying for a while.

It might not change much in the long run, but that fucker deserved to go up in a cartwheeling ball of flames. After all, he's the one who beheaded Nick Berg.

(sorry if this shows up multiple times but blogger is acting wonky)

Look folks...
Hell yes, I'm glad al-Zarqawi was bombed to bits. He's a prick who deserves the 72 ugliest virgin bitches in the afterlife.
But Bush getting him at this point is like Barry Bonds beating Babe Ruth's home run record.
It's a tainted win.
No WMD's in Iraq, torture at Abu Ghraib, outing CIA agents, no bin Laden, trillions wasted on an unwinnable war: these elements make the one right thing Bush and that tight-ass Rumsfeld managed to do seem anti-climactic.
If it cheers the troops, I'm glad.
But it's too little, too late and it won't make that incompetent group of draft dodgers in the Bush administration more credible.
They got lucky on this bombing.
May al-Zarqawi rot in Hell, otherwise let's not get too excited. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Or my favorite saying fits too:

Love it, Dusty.
Having read various news recaps of the bombing today, it seems the consensus is that it was a big kill, but not one that will greatly alter the shape of things to come in Iraq.
Behind him are dozens of equally crazed bastards who envision their 72 virgins in martyr heaven.
Iraq ain't Nazi Germany and a-Z wasn't Hitler.
The atonal beat goes on.

What our administration forgets time and time again is that you can not kill a religious insurgency with bullets. These guys are gun-ho with god..and that makes all the difference in the world with regards to defeating the enemy..
In this case the enemy is god..or the islamic version to be more specific.

I'm glad they got the bastard but of course now he's a martyr blah blah blah, a dandy new excuse to blow Americans up. I'm with KZ, let's get the fuck out of there and stop antagonizing them with these pathetic little gestures of strength. If you have fire ants in a neighboring town, why the hell would you go over and poke their hill with a stick? It just pisses them off and shows your stupidity.

This killing illustrates the futility of the entire invasion and occupation of Iraq.
There's not just one guy we had to unseat in order to restore the country to lawfulness.
This is a country of anarchy, with thousands of murderously rabid wanna-be leaders who've loathed each other for centuries.
Now their only commonality is their concentrated hatred for Americans-- and Bush in particular.
Sure, killing al-Zarqawi was great but it won't change a thing.
Like most dry drunks, Bush thinks he can change the way others think because he thinks his way is the best way.
His enablers and fellow drunks like Dick Cheney only provide him justification for his delusional thoughts and actions.

Just got a devastating forward on Iraq that I'll reprint in my blog.

Lends an interesting perspective to the subject of terror in Iraq, as well as what the hell we are doing there. Sure ain't spreading dee-mocracy.
