Oranges, Anyone?

I went out for Thai food earlier this evening and in the parking lot were two guys selling big bags of oranges and grapefruit from a truck.
"How much?" I asked.
"Five dollars for eight pounds of Valencia juice oranges," he said.
I must have heard him wrong.
It turned out to be five dollars for EIGHTEEN pounds of oranges.
And they are delicious, sweet and easy to peel.
Now all I need is a great recipe that requires 20 or 30 oranges.
Anyone?

When life gives you oranges -- make orange juice! :)

I'd make some orange zest, dry it and save it for later uses.

Other than that, try the foodtv web site and do a search for recipes with "oranges" in it.

I decided to create a new, New Year's tradition and started handing them out to neighbors. I told them it was an Italian tradition to symbolize good luck in the new year.
They bought it.
Also, World Market was having a half off sale on Christmas stuff. I bought an Italian Pannetone for only $4.50 and proceeded to eat way too much of it.
The neighbors got big hunks of that for good luck*, too.

*good luck fitting into your pants after a few slices of that stuff

Oh, my! Sweet, juicy oranges!

Dagnabbit. I knew I was forgetting to do something important on my trip: go to the grocery store and wander down the produce section smelling fresh, juicy fruit ... for a couple of hours per day.

Tradition! An Italian one, at that...
You're good.

Yeah, and the best part is I have 0 percent Italian blood.
The closest I've ever been was a half-Italian woman I used to date.
Mamma mia, that was one crazy chick.

Did you know that my family used to grow oranges? When there were actually oranges in Orange County, CA? Valencias are truly juice oranges, and the best thing you can do is literally juice 'em. If you have any left, that is...

No LuLu, I didn't know that.
And juicing them sounds wonderful but an 8 oz. glass of OJ contains enough sugar to blow one of my feet off.
I just eat them anymore- no juice for me, alas.
I am giving away the last of them today. I saved about 10 for myself.
