I Think I Get It Now

I've been noticing how several big city newspapers are choosing Hillary or Obama to endorse, and while I have no problem with Obama's endorsements, I am happier that Hillary is getting her share.
I keep hearing the pundits say that middle aged white women are going for Hillary, and it dawned on me-
I am one of those middle aged white women they're talking about.
How can I think and feel like I'm so much younger than 54? Fifty-four sounds really old to me, and I'm living in here!
As an early devotee of feminism, I recall marching for equal rights back in the days when I was so young I didn't need a bra, much less wear one.
My participation with women's rights preceded my involvement with gay rights and minority rights. I marched in all their protests, as well as several Vietnam protests back in the 70's.
After all, I was a woman before I was anything else.
So yes, I can overlook Hillary's unfortunate fuck-ups in occasionally voting for the wrong things in the Senate. Anyone who expects one politician to have a perfect voting record is naive.
When I was 12, I thought LBJ was a hick who helped kill John F. Kennedy and that Goldwater was kind of cool. My daddy liked Goldwater and I thought that was enough.
Then my mother sat me down and explained to me that my daddy was a Republican because he came from poor California white trash, and that her side of the family was always behind the Democrats.
Her baby brother owned a restaurant in California where he held fundraisers for both JFK and Bobby Kennedy.
Obama is a fine young candidate. He is energizing the Gen X and Y and Z kids and that's great.
But he ain't a woman and he doesn't know what it's like to be a woman.
He never fought for the ERA, marched for pro-choice or did anything I know regarding women's rights. I could be wrong- please enlighten me if I am.
But for now, I'm sticking with Hillary because I can relate better to her.

I caught a glimpse of Michelle Obama speaking at the Oprah/Shriver/Caroline event.
Sorry folks, I don't like her.
Reminds me too much of Condi Rice meets Omarosa.

Obama might not be a woman..but he is a human being that has felt the bitchslap of racism..which in my book is pretty much up there with sexism as two of the three worst ism's there are.

I am voting for one of my felines tomorrow..I can't vote for either of the two Democratic candidates yet.

I'm voting for Baby Jake.
He's very electable, I think. ;)

Baby Jake is divine KZ ;)

And worthy of your vote!

Have you noticed how many daughters are talking their mothers into voting Obama?

I think boomer women tend to favor Hillary because she's the embodiment of what we fought so hard for in our youth. But boomer daughters weren't part of the struggle so they're going for the youthful candidate, and talking their mothers into Obama too.

Voting for Hillary is a vote confirming that the feminist movement was meaningful.

Amen, sister.
Besides, Obama's Rottweiler wife, Condaleezza Omarosa Obama, will turn off too many white men and women voters to win him the general election.
Example:
When asked today on GMA if she'd support Hillary if she won the nomination, she had the colossal balls to say she'd "have to think about it."
She said she'd have to consider "Hillary's tone," among other things.
Yeah- I guess she's saying she might have to go with McCain if Hillary wins.
What an asshole.

I guess she's saying she would "have to think about it." In an age where too many people don't think about their vote, I have no problem with Mrs. Obama saying that.

Voting party over principle is tragic subjugation of human reason. If she decides McCain or whomever on the other side is a better candidate than Hillary, then more power to her. At least she thought about it.

I am literally laughing out loud at the thought that Michelle Obama might actually vote for McCain over Hillary.

If Obama ever has any hope of running for ANY office again, his wife going with McCain would ruin that chance. I mean, is she a fucking Democrat or WHAT? She had BETTER vote party over principle if she's married to a man running as a Democrat!!

If Bill Clinton said that "he'd have to think about endorsing Obama"- all hell would have broken loose.

The idea that Michelle Obama would be politically green enough to choose this moment to gig Hillary like she did just shows how much she's unprepared to take on the GOP tricksters.

She's a bad sport and she needs to hide that side of herself before she totally fucks things up for her husband.

The more she says, the worse it gets for Barack.

If she thinks Hillary is bad news and decides to vote against her in the general election, then maybe she isn't a Democrat. Again, more power to her.

I love your story about your mom sitting you down and explaining the facts of Goldwater and repugs to you.

I know how you feel regarding your age. I'm 43, and I still can't believe it. I still can't believe it's 2008. When I was a kid, I never thought I'd get this old. I thought I'd just be young forever or something. sigh.

I have to second your comments on Mrs. Obama--first Obama claims that Reagan had ideas and now his wife basically all but says she'd vote McCain over Clinton? Those people are idiots. The guy's nothing but "change hope change" with no substance. I really don't understand how he's doing so well.
