Is Our Texas Childrens A'learnin?

If the Federal government recommends a standardized curriculum taught throughout the states, that's considered socialism and an evil government takeover.
But if the far right-wing of the Texas Education Commission makes radical, ultra conservative changes to Texas public school textbooks, that's just hunky dory.
If I had kids of school age, I'd have to leave Texas.
There's no way they could receive a decent public education in this backasswards state.

What next?
Maybe they will make Howard Zinn's "A People's History of United States" a banned book & then more students will read it!

But good luck with putting a positive spin on the Bush2 presidency.

On the bright side, at least there is a heads up to see what theses visionaries come up with.

I'm sure Jon Stewart, Rachael Maddow, Keith Olbermann & late night comedians everywhere will have fun with the revisionist text.

Nice graphic!

Reading about the ugly face of the BofE, the dentist McLeroy. It appears he is a particularly scary loon, believing in the 10000 year-old Earth, and that humans and dinosaurs cohabited in this shiny young world. He seems to find it easy to ignore science on these matters, yet has found enlightenment and reason, I assume, in the science that underpins his Dentistry degree. Maybe it's because that's the part that makes him lots of money?

I think most dentists get into the field because they love inflicting pain on people.

How eco friendly is an "Energy Star" appliance if you need to increase from 20 to 30 amps to run them? Green washing!

Texas loves to celebrate its "Freedom" every year ie 174 years of Freedom! Freedom from whom or what? We stole this hot ass chunk of prairie from the Mexicans who never held US citizens hostage except those thieving mercenaries, Davy Crockett et al.

Texas has always lied about history, especially Texas history, so what's the big deal about this current re-write they're planning?

i wonder how dr. mcleroy would feel about a guy who practices dentistry, when he's never been to dentistry school but read a few books on the subject (only those books which reflect his own opinions about dentistry, of course). how stupid are the people who voted for this lump of shit? he's not a teacher, an historian, an economist, or a man of science (even if he is a dentist). i guess being a fundie is the only qualification you need to get elected in texas, where it appears palignorance reigns. (palignorance is the new word i made up that i am currently pushing. melissa of writechic press asked me the following:

Is there a word for when you really don’t know much about the world, but you wanna make people think you do so that you’re electable, but you’re generally too confused and therefore anything can fly out of your mouth at any moment?

and i answered, "palignorance." so that's the definition.)

Whoa there, Nonnie!
Florida isn't exactly the enemy of Christian fundamentalist nutcases!
If you want to discuss what it takes to be elected in a state, I'll see your McLeroy and raise you a Katherine Harris.
