Cell Phones Numbers and Telemarketers:
Don't Let Telemarketers Eat Your Minutes

(Special thanks to Anna)

Thirty days from today, cell phone numbers will be released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive unsolicited sales calls.
YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS.
These telemarketers will eat up your free minutes.

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone:

1-888-382-1222.

It is the National DO NOT CALL list.
It will only take a minute of your time and blocks your number from annoying telemarketers for five years.

PASS THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS!

You can also register on line at:www.donotcall.gov

Yeah, Pam, it doesn't seem right. But when it comes to a choice between making a corporate buck in this country or personal rights, the buck always wins.

This scam has been in the works for quite some time now. Telemarketing interests have been trying to reach your cell phone for years and they finally got the OK.

The "do not call" list works, though. I registered my home phone on it a couple years ago when it first came out. It was a miracle. I went from probably a dozen annoying telemarketer calls a day to MAYBE one or two a week. (one of the exceptions to the do not call law on home phones is charities...)

I registered all my cell phones on the new do not call list as soon as I found out about it. I'm hoping it's as effective as the other one.

On a related note, did you know that telemarketers and spammers regularly send junk FAXs to business FAX machines??? Just heard that one recently and it blew my mind.

I don't think anyone needs to be alarmed but registering your cell phone number on the don't call list can't hurt either.

Many have e-mailed me to report that the alert is a hoax. I researched it and the 30-day deadline was a hoax and some of the tone of the message was overly dramatic, but the 1-888 number and website are legit.
Cell phone companies say they have no plans to publish yellow or white pages listing our cell phone numbers, but I do think they may make them available to those who call 411.
At any rate, the DO NOT CALL list is legit and it worked on landlines, so I suspect it'll work on cell phones as well.
