My Oscar Picks

Best Picture:
Brokeback Mountain
Capote
Crash
Good Night, and Good Luck
Munich

It has to be Brokeback Mountain.

Best Actor
Philip Seymour Hoffman, Capote
Terrence Howard, Hustle & Flow
Heath Ledger, Brokeback Mountain
Joaquin Phoenix, Walk the Line
David Strathairn, Good Night, and Good Luck

Philip Seymour Hoffman. I don't even like him that much, but I have to give him credit.

Best Actress
Judi Dench, Mrs. Henderson Presents
Felicity Huffman, Transamerica
Keira Knightley, Pride & Prejudice
Charlize Theron, North Country
Reese Witherspoon, Walk the Line

Felicity Huffman was so good in Transamerica, it would be a crime not to give her the Oscar.

Best Supporting Actor
George Clooney, Syriana
Matt Dillon, Crash
Paul Giamatti, Cinderella Man
Jake Gyllenhaal, Brokeback Mountain
William Hurt, A History of Violence

Jake Gyllenhaal was a very convincing bottom. He wins.

Best Supporting Actress
Amy Adams, Junebug
Catherine Keener, Capote
Frances McDormand, North Country
Rachel Weisz, The Constant Gardener
Michelle Williams, Brokeback Mountain

Catherine Keener was wonderfully restrained in her role as Harper Lee. She wins by a landslide.

Best Director
Ang Lee, Brokeback Mountain
Bennett Miller, Capote
Paul Haggis, Crash
George Clooney, Good Night, and Good Luck
Steven Spielberg, Munich

Ang Lee is a shoo-in.

Best Original Screenplay
Crash
Good Night, and Good Luck
Match Point
The Squid and the Whale
Syriana

Crash had a wonderful screenplay, with plenty of ins and outs.

Best Adapted Screenplay
Brokeback Mountain
Capote
The Constant Gardener
A History of Violence
Munich

Brokeback Mountain was more visual than auditory, so I have to pick Capote.

Who do you pick?

i haven't seen enough of the nominated to have an informed opinion...
for best picture - brokeback mountain was better than crash...
for best actor, only saw ledger - can't imagine anyone better
best actress - haven't seen any, but that doesn't keep me from voting for keira knightley
best supporting actor - meh - wasn't crasy about gyllenhall - i'll pass
best supporting actress - um - keener was great in 40 year old virgin
best director - ang lee - definitely - if for no other reason to make up for him being robbed for crouching tiger...
the rest - no opinion...
what about best soundtrack - i'd go either for brokeback mountain or grizzly man - are they nominated?

David Ogden Stiers as Mr. Flippers in Hoodwinked.

Great flick. I'm owning it on DVD as soon as it hits.

How could the Academy omit Mr. Flippers??

(who?)

HA!~
Hoodwinked.

I think it's the only movie Tamara and I went to this year...we loved it. Hillarious.

I like the fact that there hasn't been a whole lot of cross marketing.

We're also big fans of Wallace and Gromit. Cures of the Wererabbit comes out on Monday.

oops...curse. Curse of the Wererabbit.

Doggo, I saw, "Curse of the Wererabbit" the night it came to San Antonio, back in December.
While it's quite ambitious in its scope, for me it lacked the Hitchcockian film noir quality we saw in, "Wrong Trousers."
Without an antagonist as compelling as the distinctly evil Penguin, this feature length movie leaves the viewer wanting more.
Still, it was very good.
