An Excerpt from the AP- with a surprise ending

"...But by Tuesday, as the grand jury completed its work in Austin, Texas, Blunt forcefully asserted his claim to the job in conversations with the speaker, according to several GOP officials.
At the same time, conservative lawmakers quickly made known their unhappiness with Dreier as a potential stand-in for DeLay.
At a private midday meeting, several conservative lawmakers argued that Dreier's voting record was too moderate. According to officials who spoke on condition of anonymity, some participants in the meeting said the Californian had voted in favor of expanded federal funding for stem cell research and against a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. There also was grumbling that the Californian favored a less restrictive policy on immigration than many conservatives.
"There was a lot of discussion in that room about will ... he advance the conservative agenda?" said Rep. Jack Kingston, R-Ga., who attended the meeting and said he personally would have been comfortable with Dreier in the post.
Other officials said a show of hands near the end of the session showed support for a postponement in selecting a temporary majority leader if it were to be Dreier. A delegation was dispatched to inform Hastert, who in the meantime had decided to recommend Blunt instead...."

DUH! The GOP objected to David Dreier because he's ANOTHER CLOSETED GOP FAGGOT!!!
When will the Democrats jump on all this closeted, self-loathing, rampant homosexuality in the GOP?
Ken Mehlman, chairman of the Rebublican National Committee is gay.
Scott Mc Clellan, White House Spokesman is gay.
David Dreier is gay.
Bush's favorite former White House Press Corps 'reporter,' Jeff Gannon Guckert is a gay male escort!
WTF???

Addendum:

"Most corrupt" in Congress listed
By Chuck Neubauer Los Angeles Times

Washington - A watchdog group, naming what it calls "the 13 most corrupt members of Congress," is calling for ethics investigations of some of the most prominent political leaders on Capitol Hill in a report to be released Monday.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) claims in its report that the 13 members violated a variety of congressional ethics rules. Among them are Senate Majority leader Bill Frist and House Majority Whip Roy Blunt."
Gee, didn't the House majority just appoint Blunt to replace indicted DeLay? And isn't Frist about to be indicted for insider trading and obstruction of justice?
CREW has its shit together!

I'd heard the rumor about Dreier. He's never come out publicly and said he was gay... but apparently he is in a very long-term, loving relationship with another man.

How in the hell can he stand himself? He's in a party that would take any and all rights away from his partner, should anything happen to him. His partner cannot get his benefits [life-time medical, pension, etc.], thanks to his party.

I feel badly that when everything is said and done, the party he supposedly loves would still stab him in the back.

Dreier's domestic partner is his chief of staff and, as such, enjoys a salary of more than $160,000 a year.
I wouldn't worry about the little woman too much, she's got it made for life with her sweet civil service retirement plan.

I hate to say it, but the Dems better pray to all they consider to be holy that DeLay gets convicted. They dson't call the rat bastaerd "The Hammer" for nothing.

The GOP is already starting the haggard old cliche, "You can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich..." and variations thereof.
Such creative rhetoric.
The Austin-based Grand Jury was made up of the same type of people who will be on the jury panel for the trial.
Even during voir dire, it'll be tricky for Dick Degeurin to find reasons to exclude everyone in Austin.
I think he'll pray for a Republican judge and ask for a change of venue.
But even then, if a co-conspirator has agreed to squeal on DeLay, he'll still be in trouble.
Remember- Oprah beat Texas cattlemen in Amarillo, of all redneck hellholes.
Besides, most of DeLay's fellow TRMPAC crooks have already been found guilty.

Besides this indictment, DeLay has had more ethics charges leveled at him than almost anyone in the history of American politics.
I think his innate coating of slime as he goes on trial will not help him assert his innocence.

And if he beats this charge- he'll end up being a political version of O.J. Simpson. A loathesome laughingstock.

tru dat, karen...but if in the unlikely event that the Good Ol Boys network kicks in and he is somehow exhonorated and somehow returns to 'power,' he'll stop at nothing to crush anyone and everyone who carries a 'D' behind their name.

though, the bush admin has done a really good job at distancing themselves from their kinfolk who fuck up bad enough to get themselves caught (a'la Brownie)...how's that for loyalty?
