Pinning Down the Nominee

Last night I watched Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) talking to Bush SCOTUS nominee John Roberts on C-Span, and he eloquently explained his criteria for the interview process.
Schumer said he wanted answers that would help the Senate decide if Roberts was a mainstream conservative or a Bush conservative.
He said he wanted Roberts's opinions based on past cases, already settled, so Roberts couldn't use the excuse that he doesn't want to comment on case law topics that might one day be pending in the court.
Schumer was brilliant. He left no wiggle room.

If you can stand the tedium, try to catch a little of the confirmation hearings for John Roberts on C-Span.
He sounds like he might actually have a nodding acquaintance with the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution.
I am very, very cautiously optimistic that he hasn't actually swallowed as much of the Bush Kool-Aid as we worried he may have.

keep me informed, k...i'm not amongst the cable-ready ranks, so i miss out on a lot of that seemingly boring tedium.

On another note, as of a few minutes prior to my posting this, Chimp went on record (i got my info on msn) as saying that he took 'full responsibility' for the delays and problems that occurred after katrina hit. i don't f-ing believe it.

it may not mean a cotton picking thing but...he actually admitted that there were fuckups, and took responsibility. now, whether or not this gets spun completely out of proportion by the talking heads (limbaugh, hannity, coulter, etc...) and the GOP or...the dems and anyone else on the left will be seen in the coming days.

Bush admitting he fucked up can only mean one thing: his back was against the wall and even his handlers couldn't bail his worthless ass out this time.
He had to admit it- his excuses have run out, so now he's trying humility.
As if.
With Tom DeLay's PAC cronies being indicted in Austin today and Karl Rove about to take it up the ass for being a treasonous rat, the Bush trainwreck is about to tumble over a tall bridge and hit dry land.
>KABOOM<
Let's send Brownie in to handle the wreckage, he's looking for work these days.

excuse me but..BFD..he admitted to something as plain as the nose on my face..it did not seem sincere..it reminded me of when i would apologize because I was made to as a child..the man has all the charm of a cockroach..

point, dusty...tamara seems to be of the opinion that this is a last resort to perhaps save a little of what's left of his ass in the polls...

all in all, it's just crocodile tears he's crying.

Crocodile tears or not, it'll get spun up big by the administration. Watch for pre-made headlines to be released at near-future press conferences:

"HEROIC PRESIDENT TAKES BLAME FOR NEW ORLEANS DISASTER, SAYING 'THE BUCK STOPS HERE' "

"NEW ORLEANS MAYOR AND LOUISIANA GOVERNOR NOW LOOK LIKE WHINY LITTLE PUNKS WHO REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY"

"KNOWING FULL WELL THAT THE AMERICAN PUBLIC HAS A SHORT MEMORY, THE PRESIDENT WAITS UNTIL THE LAST POSSIBLE MOMENT TO FAKE A LITTLE HUMANITY, COUNTING ON THIS TO WIN BIG SUPPORT FOR REPUBES IN THE '06 ELECTIONS"

zounds like jimbob and i are on the same page. i've thought about that too...

limbug and the rest of his ilk are gonna have fun with this one today...

fortunately here in duluth, we finally have Air America Radio...

I actually did see a "Buck Stops Here" headline... how sick.

It's really sad that the repugs have now taken the kick out of the word "respsonsibility" and made it a lame shadow of itself.

Should be, "The Buck STARTS Here."
Anyone who falls for Bush's latest stab at redeeming himself should be horsewhipped.
And if Bush's little speech tonight prempts the premiere of Survivor, I'm gonna be pissed.

I thought it was Thursday when I wrote that. Doh!
His little platitude-filled jibber jabber will be on Thursday night.
Thank God for cable.

It will be at 9:00pm EDT. That doesn't conflict with Survivor here... don't know about Texas, though.

Whew.
Survivor's on at 7 p.m. here so it'll be over before Chucklehead comes on and launches into his bullshit dog and pony show.
