Ronnie Earle: 10 Tom DeLay: 0

Shakespeare said in MacBeth, "The lady doth protest too much, methinks."
After all the denials and hissing and spitting like the rattler he is, Tom DeLay decided to throw in the towel and soon will step down from his seat in Congress.
Not only that, he plans to leave Texas and move to Virginia.
Texas soon will become a cleaner place.
All that remains is for Travis County D.A. Ronnie Earle to put DeLay on trial, convict him and send him to prison...hopefully in Virginia.
Once he's served his sentence, his career as a lobbyist might not seem so filled with potential, unless he's lobbying for improved prisons.
It's a beautiful day in Texas!

Wow! I didn't know we were getting the added bonus that HE'S LEAVING TEXAS! There is hope for our state after all.

Or he's moving in hopes that he won't have to do time in a Texas Prison..they aren't as comfy as VA ones I hear.

I believe it's, "do the crime in Texas, do the time in Texas."
Hope it's one without air conditioning. They'll be plenty of bugs for the exterminator to kill.

He's not worried about that -- he'll do about as much time as Ken Lay.

Trish, I'm not so sure about that. With two of his former associates indicted and willing to testify against him, I'm pretty sure a halfway decent prosecutor can show a jury that DeLay broke the law in numerous ways.
He may not do a lot of hard time but I do think he'll be forced to serve some time in prison.
At least a felony conviction will result in a permanent removal of his right to vote and own firearms.

I haven't been hearing much from the talking heads or Delay about how this is all a vast left-wing conspiracy and come to think of it I haven't seen much of Delay on TV proclaiming his innocence and how he'll be exonerated. Do you think he'll make a cozy deal and take down his friends on "K" street? Kind of ironic that his vote will be suspended while imprisoned and no more firearms. I do hope his perp walk will be televised and when it's all over we'll watch him sitting on the grey bus in his orange jumpsuit riding off into the sunset. Texas will be a better place without him. The only downside I see in all this is there isn't a requirement that he be forced to give up all his earthly possessions, including Cayman Island bank accounts, as an additional penalty. What a shame it'd be if he's set up with a lot of money in the prison bank so he can bribe his other prisoners for their tater salad and cigars.

I thought the same thing about him moving to Virginia so he can become a lobbyist, but I doubt he would have the gall to run for Congress in Virginia, because it seems pretty certain he'll be a convicted felon and thus ineligible to run.
Even as a lobbyist, who in their right mind would accept money or gifts from a scumbag like him?
That sounds like it would be political suicide to me.

Well, I'll believe it when I see it (him going to prison) but I'll certainly be celebrating.

I think DeLay will almost certainly be found guilty and do some jail time, especially since his associates cut deals to rat him out.
Ronnie Earle, Travis County DA, has his reputation to consider, and I am certain that convicting DeLay and seeing him sent to prison would silence his rabid right-wing critics who claim he was pestering DeLay out of political malice.
A prison sentence would certainly serve as tangible proof that DeLay broke the law-making his apologists and fans look like fools.

P.S. I was so delighted with the news I went out and planted a dozen marigold plants around the pine tree in my front yard.
Now, every time I see them, I can think about Dead DeLay Tuesday.
