Make It Stop!

Attn: All Facebook Friends

Thank you for all the swell wall scribbles, winks, pokes, nods, burps, bumps, nuzzles, beers, fuzzy dice, hilarious wind-up dentures, assorted polls and Mafia game invitations, but no thanks.
I know, I know, Facebook is addictive. It's fun, you say!
Problem is, I don't get it.
I don't want to get it.
I don't trust it. It makes me nervous.
Just like I don't Tweet, use MySpace, LinkdIn, E-Me or indulge in anything online except blogging and e-mail.
I do appreciate all the cyber-crap you send me, but it's okay to stop now.
I have nothing against others belonging to every social network ever devised, it's just not my thing.
Don't take it personally, it's not you, it's me.
If you ever need to talk, I'll be here.
Just don't look for me there.
Oh, I might pop in when you least expect it, but trust me, I won't know how I got there or how to get back there again.
But thanks for all the swag, and let's remember the good times.
Really, it's not you, it's me.

How does that work? You get solicited by Facebook? Or did you set up an account once and then forget about it?

Spousie had to set one up at work (she's retired now) and has been asked to be a Friend since, and she wants no part of it.

Don't discourage people Zip. Where I work, Facebook and all the other social networks are my favorite investigative tools for catching liars and crooks. Better than most investigative databases because people get on Facebook and self admit stuff in writing and just to seal their fate, they include pix and details of what they're up to! The best evidence ever.

Personally, I love that everyone uses Facebook etc, but I wouldn't be caught dead using any of the self imposed Big Brother social networks.

It's really ingenius how Facebook snares members.
When someone I liked a lot sent me an e-mail a while back wanting to be my friend on Facebook, how could I resist?
I like friends, so it seemed like a good idea at the time.
Then when I got subsequent friend requests, I worried that they'd know I ignored their offer, so I'd relent.
But posting personal information on the Internet is dangerous, especially for a mouthy broad like myself who knows how to piss people off.
I've fended off a few certifiable lunatics on the net in my day and it's like getting rid of roaches.
Facebook seems to me like an excellent place to get into trouble.

I figure between e-mail & blogging I spend more than enough time doing computer stuff- besides sitting at a computer all day @ work, the last thing I need is more of the same.

I'll close with this laugh--

What if Twitter & Facebook merged?

You'd have Twit Face!

I'll pass.

My sadistic ex girlfriend Cris who reads this blog but never deigns to comment because she knows how much I love to get comments and she'd never want me to think she's spoiling me just added me as a Facebook friend.
Hey Cris, I peed in your pool last time I was there. Remember? You were hanging on the other side of the raft and mentioned how nice and warm the water was.
;D

I like FaceBook because it allows me to be all nosy about the people I've found from my neighborhood growing up and people I went to school with or worked with. It's been great, I even got some pics of myself from when I was in my 20's partying my ass off with my ChiTown friends.

I also am addicted to Prolific, FaceBook's version of online Boggle. Other than that... I don't write much up there at all. I do like to post links for the things I advocate (petitions, etc.) so there's that as well.

I can certainly see why you wouldn't want your stuff out there if it's controversial. I stay boring up there, and get my ya-yas out on my blog.
