Man, That Man Can Give a Speech

I'll spare you the armchair parsing of Barack Obama's SOTU address, but suffice it to say there was enough substance in his words to make me believe in him again.
I loved how he hit on topics that would bring the Republicans to their feet--not because they believed in him, but because they'd look like the obstructionist jerks they are if they failed to stand and applaud.
As for Samuel Alito--fuck him and the horse he rode in on.

I keep telling myself he has only been in office for a year, and we have to give him more time than that to straighten out the fucked up mess The Shrub left us.

But that said..I still don't trust him. Not when he keeps the BushCo doctrine intact regarding tapping Americans without a warrant.

i loved it when he kicked some senate ass and rethug ass. it's about damned time that they were publicly embarrassed.

and, zippy, did you watch the rethug response? they animated a ken doll and put the employees of disneyworld behind him to smile and laugh and clap at the appopriate moments.

Meh. He won a general election after a campaign in which he asked the public to vote for him as an alternative to the Republican Party. So why does it now feel like he is in a desperate, one-way conversation with the same losers? Making speeches and policy specifically designed to appease the nutters, finding ways to give them power that the electorate denied to them.

Governing is more than making the occasional snazzy speech.

In Obama's case, he should be taking on the teaching function more frequently, and bringing his case to the American people in terms that they can understand.

I think the lack of governance lies with the gridlocked Senate.
Obama has time and again tried to bridge that chasm.

Bridgin' ain't clarifyin'--again and again, if necessary. He should really take to the street and stop over in Vermont for a session in Simple Synonyms and translating Washington-ese with Lulu.

God, I detest his advisors.
