Amy Winehouse: Dead at 27
This makes me so sad to see such a major young talent blow it all on drugs and booze.
Certain genius singers and musicians, like Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and now Amy Winehouse never made it past their 20s.
I was so hoping Amy would live to make another recording as fine as "Back to Black."
But no.
RIP, Amy.

what a shame that she never found the help she needed. or maybe she did, but she couldn't accept it. i hope she's at peace now.

A lot of great songs left behind. Sorry she couldn't find a way to survive.
Addiction is one heartbreaker, and 27 seems to be a terminal age for some of our best young talent, past and present.
Damn.
p.s. a day later... went to a site that superimposed the lyrics of "Back to Black" over a performance of it... reads like a "reason" to dive into addiction. Everything else a respite from pain, a distraction. Then when things go wrong, as they will, diving right back into the wreck.
Her use of "black" was pretty interesting.

I'm very pleased that the world is still reacting to Amy's death with such compassion and sympathy.
It's soothing to know that her death prompted new or renewed interest in her amazing musical abilities.
She was bigger than any of us would have imagined. I miss her.
